Some healthcare professionals have expressed concern in recent months about some of the meaningful use rules for the adoption of electronic health records. However, experts say that many of these concerns are based on myth rather than fact, and that installing electronic health records systems according to the guidelines could be easier than some believe.
Keith Dryer, the chairman of radiology at Massachusetts General Hospital, said at the recent annual meeting of the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine that some of the top myths surrounding meaningful use are that it will eventually go away, that radiologists are not included in the incentive program and that the requirements are nearly impossible to achieve, according to CMIO Magazine.
However, he said that this is not the case, and that getting on board with the meaningful use program could lead to many benefits for providers, including major financial incentives from the federal government, according to the news source.
When a majority of providers achieve meaningful use, the Department of Health and Human Services expect there to be tremendous improvements in the way care is delivered in the U.S.
