Practice management software that allows patients to schedule appointments with their doctors online are becoming increasingly popular among both patients and physicians.
The technology has many benefits. Patients are able to log on at their convenience and choose the time that works best for them. Additionally, physicians are able to lower their overhead operating costs by eliminating the need to staff a position dedicated primarily to scheduling matters.
The benefits are catching on. According to a new study from the American Academy of Family Physicians, 16 percent of doctor's offices are now using online scheduling practice management technology, which is up from 6 percent in 2005, according to USA Today.
Clinton Morris, a Washington-based ear, nose and throat doctor told the news source that his transition to the technology was "painless" and that the move has allowed his staff to focus more on matters of patient care.
Online scheduling may also help providers reduce wait times in their offices, reports Health Leaders Media
